I had a first attempt at putting pen to paper today and writing an introduction to my essay. I completed module two such a long time ago that I found it most helpful to re read all the work I wrote last year- not once but several times. 

My entire body of work is revolving the development or underdevelopment of musical theatre in the UAE and so I wanted to start from scratch. I wanted to find out about the beginning of Dubai. It's astonishing to think that only 30 odd years ago it's a handful of building but mainly desert. I spent the afternoon researching and finding out about the expansion and growth of Dubai itself from the beginning. I looked at expansion comparisons between the emirates and the expansion of the Uae as a whole. 

I found it helpful to compare the relevant data and figures to data and figures based on the uk to really give me perspective as to how this country has expanded so vastly so quickly. 

I figured this was a good starting point for me- if I can start with getting my head around how quickly the city has grown and how much its changed in the last 30 years I can start to asses more accurately why, or why not, MT hasn't developed there.
